Even though the production of binaural beats has only been feasible through new technology, the power behind binaural beats has been fathomed throughout history. Ancient civilizations have known about the power and effectiveness of binaural beats centuries before modern science has recognized them. Now these civilizations throughout history did not call them binaural beats or even knew what binaural beats were. All they knew was that steady rhythmic sound created extremely powerful healing and spiritual benefits. Scientist Melinda Maxfield, PhD, did studies on the drum beats played in the rituals of these different cultures and found that they beat at a consistent rate of 4.5 beats per second. This steady rhythm creates a trance-like state to its listeners. This is caused by the brain shifting into a 4.5-beats-per-second brainwave state, which is a low Theta brainwave frequency. In almost every civilization throughout time, binaural beats have played an important part of the healing and spiritual growth of man. With the use of repetitive beats and chanting, the Tibetan monks, Native American shamans, Hindu healers, and mastered Yogis have been able to cause ranges of brainwave states for transcending consciousness, healing and spiritual growth. It was 1839, when Heinrich Wilhelm Dove found binaural beats, that science had finally caught up. And though scientific studies still continued, binaural beats remained a kind of mystery for the next century. In 1973, Gerald Oster put together the scattered binaural beat studies since Dove and wrote "Auditory Beats in the Brain". In this research paper, Oster offered extraordinary fresh insight and new laboratory findings to study on binaural beats. Oster saw binaural beats as an extraordinary tool for cognitive and neurological studies. He believed binaural beats could answer questions such as how animals could locate sounds in their three-dimensional environment and the great skill of animals to pick out and focus on certain sounds with lots of other noises around them. Oster also thought binaural beats were a tremendous tool for diagnosing medical problems. Not just auditory impairments but also for more basic neurological conditions. The affects of binaural beats on consciousness were first researched by Robert Monroe who tried to mimic a subjective impression of 4Hz oscillation that he associated with astral projection, also known as OBE. From the strength of his discoveries, Monroe started the binaural beat self-development industry by making The Monroe Institute, now a non-profit binaural beat research and education organization. Since this time, binaural beats have been extensively researched and scientists understand more about our brainwave states and how they are affected by binaural beats. With this new understanding and technology, we have been able to create the powerful binaural beats that are out there today. Andrew Manley has been using binaural beats for many years to improve his life and experience things that are out of this word. He now creates free binaural beats and gives vast amounts of information about the benefits and power of using them at Binaural and Beats.
