You know for a fact that chess is one of the timeless games ever invented in history. It has been played for centuries and will be played continually in the years to come. Back then, playing the game entailed having to purchase a chessboard and chess pieces. Toy stores offered many different types of boards and pieces. There was wood, metal and marble; but the purchase decision was always left to you. It is true that in the old times, people wanted to have the most attractive and most expensive sets because they added value and excitement to the game. However, in the modern times, any chess enthusiast can say goodbye to chessboards and chess pieces. Technology changed the way the game is played. Today, a computer chess is all you need to play this favorite sport. It can comprise of a hardware and a software or a software alone. A computer chess that encompassed a hardware and a software was invented in the 1990s. It was created to conduct research on cognitions, but it functioned as a game you can play in autonomy. The game had both a tangible and virtual LCD chessboard. If no opponent was available, you could battle against the computer. The same rules applied; all you had to do was checkmate your opponent's king. The twenty-first century paved the way for different computer chess programs to be created. Today, there are already a lot of versions available for downloading or online-gaming. These chess programs can be stored in your hard disk and be played without having to go online. There are also other online-chess gaming sites that let you play with other chess enthusiasts real-time. In this technological era, you do not have to be physically present in front of your opponent to start and end a game. A computer, internet and chess application are all you need to get the game going. Another feature of computer chess is being mobile. There are undoubtedly a lot of Java versions of chess that you can store in your mobile phone, personal digital assistant (PDA) or game console. This feature lets you take the board game wherever you go. If you have to play with a human opponent, you may use Bluetooth or any other connectivity programs installed in your gadget. The times have definitely changed; playing chess no longer requires you to stay in your seat and stare at a black-and-white board for long hours. Even if the times have changed and the way chess is played has drastically evolved, the benefits that the game offers have not been replaced. Chess still teaches you concentration, focus, independence, patience, and logical thinking. These benefits adapt to the changes made in theories, principles and methods. Besides, it is only the method of playing that changes, the values and learning are always upheld; so whether you are into computer chess or a regular chessboard, the benefits of the games are yours to keep.
