An Apple a day

Owning an iPhone increases your use of data. But is it really a replacement for a laptop?

According to US consulting company Rubicon, monthly bills of Apple iPhone users have gone up by 24% since starting using the device. It seems that Apple iPhone users are making full use of all the services on the device and are happy with it, despite a lot of consumers still complaining and waiting for the rumoured 3G version.

The target audience of the Apple iPhone are young, tech savvy with above average wealth, and a quarter of all apple iPhones are owned by people who have no other Apple experience. Users are satisfied with the music features and the innovative touchscreen interface.

The most used data service of the iPhone is the browsing, with 60% of users connecting to Wi-Fi everyday. Email is the most used function on the iPhone - with over 70% of users checking their emails daily.

Understandably 77% of users said that they browse more on the iPhone than on their previous handset, however more than half of the respondents said that they carry their iPhone with them instead of a laptop!

Of course the introduction of a 3G version of the iPhone can only increase data usage. Luckily the iPhone is only available in the UK on the o2 network - all of the iPhone tariffs include unlimited data usage, so you are free to browse and email to your hearts content!
