A traveling RN is a registered nurse who does not work in one place, such as the office of a doctor, but who sees patients in a variety of different venues. A travel RN can work for various government entities that are looking for qualified nurses to provide home health care for patients who cannot get in to see a doctor or who may be at the end of life and who cannot use a doctor. There are many opportunities available today for registered nurses, especially those who wish to travel.

There are many advantages to being a traveling RN. Many registered nurses dislike the idea of being confined to working in a hospital setting and look for some variety in their work. They can find this through a travel RN job that will send them to various different places where they can provide medical care for many patients who might not be able to afford to go to a doctor. Clinics are one place where a travel RN can work. This can be a part time position or a full time position, depending on the type of clinic where the nurse works. Many of those who get into traveling RN fields are looking for part time jobs that can still afford them some time to themselves and for their families while still providing a paycheck.

Various government entities are looking for qualified traveling RN professionals to provide health care for patients who are entitled to home health care as well as health care in schools and other facilities. One example of a job that a travel RN may have is to give out vaccinations to school aged children who need these vaccinations to go to school but whose parents may not have insurance to cover the cost of these vaccinations. Most government entities are aware of the fact that many people today have inadequate or no health insurance, although it is still required that school aged children are vaccinated against various diseases. Many counties will provide a travel RN to administer these vaccinations free of charge to children and even to adults who are in need of some booster shots. A traveling RN may find themselves employed by several different entities and may also find themselves traveling to various places to administer care.

As the health care crisis in the United States continues to grow, there is more of a need for a travel RN in various places. This is not just in rural or urban clinics, but all across the United States. Traveling RN professionals can provide medical care for a nominal cost or at some times, no cost, to those who need medical treatment but cannot afford to go to the doctor, or cannot wait for an appointment to see a doctor. A child who has a throat infection, for example, needs immediate care. A travel RN who works at a pharmacy clinic can provide care and even give a prescription for this type of ailment without the parents having to wait to see a doctor or visit the emergency room of a hospital.
