Starting a PT business, is never easy and growing a business is almost always even more difficult. The biggest challenge that personal trainers run into when trying to grow their businesses is the fear of investing in their businesses. Any business is a living entity and just like any living entity it needs to be nurtured and investing time, money and energy into your yoga business is akin to feeding and nourishing your business. Many trainers and fitness professionals make the mistake of treating their business like a hobby and in order for their business to succeed it is crucial that they change their mindset in terms of how they perceive and put energy into their businesses. The first step is to create a business plan and it does not have to be extremely elaborate but it should at least contain your intention or mission followed by a marketing plan and marketing goals or objectives. Your marketing plan essentially describes the tactics that you plan to grow and promote your business. Ideally your marketing plan will have 3 distinct marketing processes accompanied with action steps and objectives for each item. Here is a list of some marketing tactics that you could consider: Telemarketing Presentations Cold Calling (door-to-door) Networking Client Referrals Print Advertising Media Advertising Signage/Walk Ins Search Engine Marketing Pay-Per-Click Advertising Press Releases Article Submission Yellow Pages Affiliate Marketing Directory Listings Email Marketing If this is your first business that you have ever started, it would be in your best interest to get help when creating and implementing your marketing plan. You could probably find some great resources for free or for a nominal investment at your local Small Business Administration. In addition to creating a marketing plan, following and investing time and money in your marketing process is really the key to your success. Mikel Bruce with WebFlexor PT Websites www.websitesforpt.com strongly recommends taking advantage of the power of the Internet to grow their businesses. Techniques such as email and article marketing are extremely cost effective and very inexpensive to implement. Similar to your personal training education, your training business will need to be taken very seriously. Most trainers have the misperception that if they are very good at what they do than they are bound to succeed. Ironically, this can in some cases work against them. The fitness professional that invests all of their time and resources in perfecting their skills and little time in building, growing, and promoting their business is running the risk of failure. This does not mean to neglect your practice and teaching skills but just like anything else, strive for the balance between the two. Many trainers actually hide behind their skills and education for fear of growing their business. Remember that investing in your business means that it is very important to make the time to work on building and promoting your business. It is also critical to spend money and some of the basics are to invest money into your marketing tactics as well as have a quality website since the internet is where the vast majority of students go to find yoga teachers and studios. If you are looking to develop a professional web presence and succeed on the Web, WebFlexor PT specializes in affordable and quality websites for Personal Trainers and Fitness Professionals.
