1) Firstly, you need to understand the target consumers that you are going after. These are your customers, and in every business, customers are the most important lifeblood, and provides much needed cash flow. You need to understand them, and their needs and wants. Your products need to satisfy their needs well. Check out the size of prize for the solution that you are offering. Is the size of prize lucrative enough, with enough quantity of customers desiring your product or solution?

Big companies often conduct formal massive surveys and interviews from as small as 300 respondents to as large as 5000 respondents to get more reliable consumer research data. You may not have the budget and resources to do such big scale researches. What you can do is check various media for trends, fads, wants and demands. You can check out online forums, blogs, magazines and newspapers.

2) Then, you must determine your target audience's spending power. If you are targeting teens, the spending power won't be much, unless you are targeting rich kids. You need to test your pricing strategy with them to determine the pricing sweet spot. Go and do a few interviews with your target consumers and check if they are willing to pay the price for your product, or if your product is desirable enough for them to fork out the money. Ensure that your products contain up to date information.

3) Ultimately, your product should be of value to them. Ensure that it provides the needed solution for them to solve their problems, or enhance their lives in other ways.

The whole internet marketing game takes time to master, so learn from those who have been there to shorten your learning time, and avoid painful mistakes.
