Business Improvements

Sometimes it seems that business now-a-days are lacking something—or many things, as the case may be. But what are those missing things? The answer depends on who you ask. Some miss the personal relationship that customers used to have with business owners. They miss those ma and pa shops that are congenial, authentic, and genuine. To the majority, big businesses seem cold and uncaring—well, they care about money, I am sure. Although this is not true of all businesses, it certainly is for some.

"It is very vulgar to talk about one's business. Only people like stockbrokers do that, and then merely at dinner parties." -Oscar Wilde

Many businesses can improve by getting to know their customers and employees. As the quote suggests above, some business men only want to talk business. They leave everything personal out of the conversation. It has been my experience that these types of conversations neither last long nor inspire people to use your services. I know this can be extremely difficult with larger corporations, but they should still at least attempt it. People can tell when businesses only want their money rather than their approval and appreciation of services and products. I think many businesses would be a great deal more successful if they really listened to their employees, clients, and customers.

"If you can't pay for a thing, don't buy it. If you can't get paid for it, don't sell it. Do this, and you will have calm and drowsy nights, with all of the good business you have now and none of the bad. If you have time, don't wait for more time." -Benjamin Franklin

The main thing that jumps out of the above quote is the last sentence about time. Some businesses continue to put problems off. They eventually become bigger problems than they originally were. This happens usually within the company and with customer's feedback and complaints. If businesses were to act immediately after their onset, they would have happier employees and customers. Happier employees equal better productivity and happy customers equal more sales and bigger profits.

"Don't agonize, organize."—Florynce R. Kennedy

Organization is a huge ordeal for some companies, but is crucial to a successful business. Any company can be down trodden if they lack organization. Things will get out of hand, they'll never know who is doing what and what documents are revised, deleted, or transferred. With this comes great liability because federal rules and regulation are sometimes not followed correctly. Companies should look into finding a web collaboration system. This will make things extremely easier within the company and provide for a smoother operation.

With just these three changes, businesses can improve dramatically. There will be happier, healthier work environments and customer relations. Many businesses have a great deal to offer, they just need to find which ragged corners need to be smoothed down.
