South Carolina Truck Driving Jobs

So, there are South Carolina truck driving jobs, but how do you find the one that works best for you? What one will help you fulfill your career goals? Once you've found the job you want, how do you get it?

Start your search in the area that you reside in, and expand from there. For example, if you live in Summerville, look for truck driving jobs in the Summerville-Charleston-Mount Pleasant area. If there aren't any jobs available, wait until there are some, or expand your search. Again, if you live in Summerville, extend your search to the Walterboro, St. George, and Georgetown areas. As you continue your search, you will probably find three or four jobs that really interest you.

Once you have a list of jobs that you want to apply for, it is time to update your resume. Make sure that you get rid of spelling and grammar errors. Also, include the most important (and relevant) information on your resume. If this is your first job, mention when you received your CDL, where you went to truck driving school, and what endorsements you are qualified for. If this isn't your first job, you will want to include the last three employers you worked for. Make sure that you type out your resume, and keep it to one page in length.

The Interview
After you have sent out your resume, you will hopefully receive a call from one, or all, of the places you sent your resume to. They will want you to come to their office for an interview. If you live outside of South Carolina, they will probably opt for a phone interview. During the interview, you will probably be asked questions like, "tell me your strengths, tell me your weaknesses, tell me about your last job, do you have experience pulling tanks." You should be prepared to answer those questions and others. Of course there will be other questions, and you can't prepare for all of them, but you can practice an interview with a friend or relative.

Once you are employed, you will become more important to the company as you gain experience. This means time spent behind the wheel, but it also means that you have endorsements and are up-to-date on your training. Some truck driving schools offer refresher courses to truck drivers who are interested. As you gain experience, you will get better routes and better pay.
