Are you a resident of Louisiana? Are you looking for a new career? One that provides excellent pay, a flexible schedule, and competitive insurance and benefits? When you think of a new and exciting career, truck driving may not be the first thing that springs to mind. In fact, most would not think of a truck driving job as a rewarding and advantageous career. But a truck driving job in the great state of Louisiana may just provide the opportunities to meet all your career goals.

The United States is currently experiencing a shortage of truck drivers. The majority of current truck drivers will begin to retire over the next few years. In addition, truck driving companies are having difficulties attracting and recruiting brand new drivers. These two factors together are the major cause of the massive truck driving shortage.

As a result, trucking companies not only in Louisiana but throughout the entire country are offering incentives in hopes of attracting new drivers. These include (but are not necessarily limited to) increased pay, better benefits, and a schedule picked by you. Most truck drivers are paid by the mile, so the more you drive, the more you can earn. The average pay for a truck driver is 35 cents a mile, but can be as much as 50 cents a mile. Furthermore, independent contractors (drivers who own their own truck and contract with companies to drive) can make as much as $1.50 per mile. As for schedules, many are offering flexible schedules, giving the drivers more control over when they drive and when they don't. This gives them more time at home with their families.

Louisiana is currently recovering from the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina, which hit the Gulf Coast in August of 2005. For the past few years, Louisiana has been in a state of rebuilding. Truck drivers are needed to deliver supplies, materials, and food. The economy has been recovering and is once again becoming one of the most important in the southern United States. With so many truck driving opportunities throughout the state, truck drivers have the unique advantage of job security - you will be able to find a job no matter where you live.

Consider attending a Louisiana truck driving school if you are interested in becoming a truck driver. Attending a reputable school can provide you with the instruction and training necessary to not only successfully obtain a Louisiana CDL, but to become a successful, safe, and experienced professional truck driver.
