Cracked or broken plastic wall plates should be replaced. Limit the use of electrical extension cords. Ensure that an extension cord right for the device it is powering. A lightweight extension cord may overheat when the extension cord is overloaded and this becomes a fire hazard. Also, if you are connecting an electrical device which has a three wire plug, always use a three wire/grounded extension cord with these devices. The same rule applies for a two wire extension cords. Use the right cord matches the correct electrical power draw of the device it is connecting. With the proper precautions electrical energy is safe. In homes with young children added protection provided by buying outlet socket caps. Pet owners that have a pet with a tendency to chew may want to investigate methods to shield the wiring between electrical devices and the wall socket.
