LEED has widely brought in the concept of Green Building which is really a boon to save Mother Earth. To earn leed rating, there are some prerequisites. It focuses on the use of fossil fuels and disregards the use of harmful chemicals. It also concentrates on the reuse of reclaimed building materials like the use of asbestos as insulation in water heaters, and the reuse of copper wires in copper fittings thus minimizing waste which is deadly opposite to the traditional practises of building construction. The goal of USGBC is to promote LEED thus preserving our energy resources. According to USGBC LEED 2009, buildings are subjected to four levels of leed certification based on the possible points they acquire through third party verification. The maximum possible points that can be acquired are hundred base points. In addition to this Innovation and design receives six bonus points and regional priority acquires another four. So on consolidating all these factors the four levels of rating include, Certified -if the score is between 40 - 49, Silver rating for the range 50 - 59, Gold for 60 - 79 points. If the rating is above 80, then it is Platinum LEED certified building. Article Source: http://www.ArticleBlast.com |
