Nothing beats the excitement of ripping through the brown packaging of printing companies and getting hold of your new posters. But before you get too excited with poster printing though, read through the article to understand a few things about advertising with posters.

1. Limit Your Focus:

Many small businessmen who create their own posters sometimes miss out advertising opportunities simply because they want their posters to accomplish too much at one time. It is common to have posters that are too cluttered with information that is barely readable.

Although there are a lot of intuitive information your poster can say about your company, your products, your services, etc. You should have a central idea you want to communicate. Is it a new product on offer? Are you advertising an event? Do you want to build up the brand name more than the actual products?

2. Scaling Up on Graphic Design:

In the case of posters, style is substance. Designers will often tell you that graphic design for business cards, brochures, flyers etc. should never upstage the content. When it comes to poster design graphics is the content.

Remember, you only have a few seconds. Tell as much as you can in that short span of time. As much as possible your graphics should be able to tell it all. If you put in a witty caption, be sure it supports your graphics.

When you have details you need to convey though, use traffic stopping graphics and a big unambiguous caption - "Graphic Design Expo" "Tripe Weekend Sale". Those who are interested will stop and read the detailed text even when they are smaller and found at the bottom or lower third of the poster. Set the mood, build up the excitement then deliver your sales pitch.

3. Follow Through:

In most cases, posters are created simply to look good and generate positive visual associations with your business. Customers often see them for seconds at a time, and would hardly make the sale themselves.

Use posters to set the stage for your other more informative marketing materials like brochures and flyers. Back up these advertising tools with a comprehensive and easy to navigate website that gives your customers the information they need about your business.

Better yet, use your posters to direct the viewers to your most powerful marketing tool - your sales personnel. Always remember to place your store location.

4. Be Honest with Your Advertisement

It was once said that "advertising is the art of legalized lying". Although many big businesses adhere to such deceptive practices, small businesses with a tight knit clientele cannot afford to do the same. Be sure to maintain the integrity of your business as it will be the starting ground of future and hopefully profitable relationship with your customers.

It is important to constantly deliver on your promise and ensure customer satisfaction. Your poster printing sets the standards your customer will gauge your business. It may be tempting to over promise and hype up your offer, which is a sure way to get dissatisfied customers. When it comes to your ads, be sure to under promise and over deliver.
