Car theft is a very popular crime these days that needs to be stopped. There are various preventive measures that can help reduce the frequency of car theft. Most common places for car theft are shopping complexes, movie complexes, local parking areas and other crowded placed where cars are parked on a daily basis for a longer period of time.

The government has forced strict law to stop the devastating crime but yet the citizens have to look over the cause and support the government to prevent the crime. The best way to prevent car theft is to analyze the methods, time, location and ways that thief use to steal cars and install safety devices that are capable of defending the car.

There are many car thieves who are very aggressive and intelligent. Even though various car safety features are installed, they will steal the car if they wish to do so. Many of the car thieves know the technical know-how of safety devices and can smartly remove them or deactivate them before any primary action. The latest advancement and innovation in car safety features are good enough to slow down the action and prevent car theft.

Here are some precautionary measures that can minimize the frequency of car theft:

Don't leave keys in your car. Even if in a hurry, lock the door, close the windows and take the keys along.

Don't hide a duplicate car key in the car.

Don't leave costly items or valuable in the vicinity of the car thief. Anything in the car that is visible from the window can ignite the thief to break the car and take away the valuable.

Always park the car in high-traffic parking areas where there is a parking charge. In the parking area with charge no one can take your car easily.

Install automatic lock that helps to deter car thief.

Don't leave any kind of personal documentation like bank statements, credit card bills or other personal identification documents in the car. Thief can also steal personal identity along with the car.

Don't leave the original copy of the car's registration certificate in the car. This can be misused.

Ensure to etch the Vehicle Identification Number on the windows, doors, trunk lid and other parts. This makes it difficult for the criminal to market the stolen car or the car parts.

Use the emergency brake and transmission in park. Also, turn the car wheels towards the back. This makes it difficult for the thief to tow the car.

If planning to go out for a long vacation, disable all the parts that run the car. Disable the ignition fuse, coil wire, distributor and even the coil wire.

Install a good car alarm system. It's a good device to prevent car robbery.

Floorboard locks are also good because they lock the brake pedals and disable the gas.

Gearshift lock is another advanced safety device that helps to disable shifting of transmission.

Tyre locks help to prevent the rotary motion of the wheels.

Hood lock is the latest invention that helps to get access to the car security system.
