The point of going to truck driving school is to obtain your commercial driver's license, right? So why not get the best possible training out there—the biggest bang for your buck, and for your time. But sometimes entering into a new industry can be overwhelming and confusing. It can be difficult to really know what you should be looking for in a truck driving school. Here are a few things to keep in mind when you are searching for some of the best Virginia truck driving schools around.

  • Reputation: First, find out what is being said about them. What information is out there online? Do they treat their students well? How long have they been around and what is their track record?
  • Program Length: Just because it is longer doesn't mean it is necessarily better. The average school goes about 2-5 weeks. Some longer, some even shorter. You will just have to do a little research—this goes back to finding out about their reputation.
  • Teaching: Do they focus on the knowledge over the skills test? Or vice versa? You will want to find a company that focuses on both—as both are crucial for you to pass the tests and actually earn your CDL.
  • Success Rate: What is their success rate for their students finding jobs right after earning their CDL?

The trucking companies know the reputation of most, if not all, of the trucking schools. Some they know just let students slide through without quality training, while others are known for having highly trained students. It is important to find a great school so that you can get a great job in the trucking industry.
