Chrysler plans expansion for India |

Indian auto sector is growing in a big way and you can see many luxury car makers are trying to make India a hub for their different needs. This also helps the foreign makers to expand their production in India as well as to position themselves strongly in the Indian car market. Its product portfolio ranges from small cars to sports cars and luxury sedans; and from versatile vans to heavy-duty trucks or comfortable coaches. Chryslers' passenger car brands include Maybach, Mercedes-Benz, Chrysler, Jeep®, Dodge and smart. The leading German auto makers, DaimlerChrysler is all ready to set a new manufacturing base at Chakan in Maharashtra early next year. In the year 1994, Daimler Chrysler entered the Indian market and set up Mercedes-Benz India Ltd. The new plant will be set up in a 100-acre site and will be located near the present manufacturing unit. The Indian roads are yet too experience Chrysler cars. Looking at the sales figure of last year, the company sold 2,500 cars across its models, raising the sales up of about 18 per cent, including 1100 C-Class variants. The market for luxury cars has begun to expand and with major car makers poring in, it will further widen up the market and to satisfy the growing demand, expansion is also necessary.
