The Boss 429 Mustang was presented in 1969 to memorialize the 420 Boss engine that was used by NASCAR. The sports car had to be designed to fit around the size and the power that came from the engine and nobody was more qualified to do this then Ford Automotive. All of the components came from Ford but were passed to Kar Kraft - an outside contractor - to modify them. Ford was pushed to move the battery down to the trunk so as to make more space for the engine beneath the hood. This was ideal in many ways. It was able to compensate the weight of the vehicle - which for some people made it better for them to drag race. They utilized a battery cap vent kit to serve to vent fumes outside of the trunk utilizing a rubber hose. This specific Mustang car was designed to vie against the Chrysler 426 Hemi during the NASCAR oval track racing. Ford had to qualify the engine and the only way in which they were going to accomplish this was by producing a few production vehicles that used it. Numerous people would be surprised to know that the street model of the Boss 429 does not share any components with the Boss 429 Hemi that was used during the races. Some of the late models were built with a solid lifter camshaft. This was different from what was utilized in the earlier vehicles because it offered more lift. Yet, they were not offered enough time in production and greatly affected the way in which individuals could drive it. The most defining feature of the Boss 429 Mustang is the front spoiler. This is distinct from what was utilized on the MACH-1 and Boss 302 models. It is smaller to help give the car more curb clearance due to the low front end it was designed with.
