Monsoon is that time of the year when the sky opens up and everyone is drenched in the rain. Rain water even takes its toll on automobiles and therefore it is essential to get the vehicles serviced before the monsoon starts.

Getting the car serviced prior to monsoon is important because water damage in cars can actually spoil the car exteriors as well as the interior. Good service will atleast prevent reduce the damage. Apart from the service, it is also necessary to gain knowledge in case you and your car get stuck up in clogged rain water. Rain is a nature's call and no one of us can do anything about it. It is beneficial to be prepared with all emergencies during monsoon.

Apart from villages and small towns in India where rain water clogs all the roads, cities like Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi also witness a heavy loss of articles and vehicle parts due to heavy rain. Mumbai is one such city that gets flooded during the monsoon season. During this period, Mumbai roads are jammed and vehicles are almost dipped under water. In such a situation, fury of monsoon lingers on and the vehicle passengers on road get panic.

Before venturing out on a rainy day, ensure that your car fuel tank is full. You may have to take an alternative route to reach your destination. Alternative route may be long and you may require more fuel. If the car tank is not filled, it will become difficult for you to get fuel in such a weather condition.

Inspite of being prepared for monsoon driving and having a full fuel tank, if you and your car get stuck during monsoon, here are some helpful tips:

  • First take a deep breath and stay calm. If you'll stay calm your mind will work better to think ways and measures to move out the stuck car.
  • If you are in a non-air conditioned car, lower your car windows to have ventilation. In case you are in an air-conditioned car, then slightly open the window and the air conditioner as well. If you don't slightly lower the car window in case of an air conditioned car, then toxic fumes may enter the car interiors through the clogged ducts. Sometimes, water logging below the car, can close the valves and pipes that expel toxic fumes from the unit. If the valves get closed, then all the fumes enter the car cabin. In order to avoid this make sure that you slightly lower down your car window.
  • Always carry a rough cloth in your car. Wipe the misted window with the cloth and make your vision clear. You'll feel better.
  • Always keep the doors unlocked or else you'll feel suffocated. In case you have a power window, break the glass with any thing available in your car. Keep the warning lights or hazard lamp so that others can notice your car and approach you for help.
  • In case there is an emergency, especially when you and your car are completely dipped in deep water, break the windshield and get out of the car. Try to push out your hands and legs to reach some corner.
