Car windscreens are a part of your vehicle that seem to go unnoticed on a day to day basis, but actually make up a really important part of the car. Making sure they are protected will greatly impact on your car insurance, cheap policies becoming more readily available. The windscreen is your defence against the road, and are therefore heavily prone to damage. Modern windscreens are made from a dual layer of laminated glass, which is glued into position and acts as a really rigid structure in your car, therefore not tending to fragment if hit by debris from the road. Despite this, glass is still a fragile element, and cracks to the windscreen can cause massive problems if not dealt with quickly. People find that a small crack is merely an annoyance, but it turns worse when the weather sets in and the screen starts to freeze, or when you go over a large bump in the road. Jolts to the car, or the change in temperature, can cause the crack to deepen and become larger, or worse still, the windscreen to shatter completely. A friend had this problem when on her drive back to university; a small chip on the windscreen that had been there in her retro cappuccino since she bought it suddenly jolted, and caused the whole windscreen to shatter on her. Not a pleasant experience when doing 70mph on a four lane motorway. Having the chip replaced has a good impact on the environment, the cost to fill a crack with resin is much cheaper and less labour intensive than having to remove and replace the whole pane of glass. The cost to you will be much reduced too. Most people have glass cover with their Car Insurance, and in most cases a repair to this is normally free, or of very little charge. Should your windscreen need replacing all together, you will have to claim ion your insurance and pay the glass excess, which can be between £50 ad £100. Rather expensive and time consuming for something that could have cost you next to nothing, and been done in half an hour!! Take the safe option before the evenings start getting longer and a road trip at the weekend seems a great idea, sort out all those little car problems that you were putting off.
