A Wide Variety of Used Engines Save Consumers Money

The owner of a vehicle with a BMW engine, a Buick engine, and the owner of a fleet of vehicles with Chevy engines all have very different maintenance requirements. When they suffer from drive train failure, they all have one area of commonality: buying used engines can save them a tremendous amount of money and get them back on the road quickly.

One BMW engine that offers a lot of savings potential is the engine in the BMW Z4 - nicknamed the "Land Shark." This powerful BMW engine is tremendously expensive when purchased remanufactured or new. One man might insist on buying a completely new BMW engine for his Z4 and spend $25,000. Another smarter consumer might instead buy a good used BMW engine with less than 30,000 miles on it and instead spend "only" $5,000. Which is wiser? Realistically, both engines will outlast the rest of the vehicle, and one driver spend 20%. This is but one example of how used engines can save consumers money.

Chevy engines are in great demand. 350 cubic inch (5.7L) Chevy engine makes up almost 55% of the remanufactured market. A good 350 remanufactured will run $2,500. Shops that routinely deal with Chevy engines can often source good used engines for their customers at less than $1,200.00. This means that the customer can pay less than 50% of the cost of a "new" product with all the same benefits. Smart shopping!

The owner of a vehicle with a 3800 Series II Buick engine also has a potential to save money. The truth is that the most common cause of 3800 Series II Buick engine failure is the intake manifold leaking. This causes cylinders in the engine to superheat, and can lead to a Buick engine "blowing a head gasket." Normally this happens after 5 years or use, or after 80-100,000 miles. Because of this, many folks in need of a good Buick engine view used engines as a nonviable option. Nothing could be further from the truth! With a simple swap of the gasket in question, a perfectly useable Buick engine is produced and the customer can save 50-75% on their part cost. To this author, that is smart.
