As with all martial arts, Taekwondo teaches punching, blocking, and kicking techniques. There are various kinds of kicking in Taekwondo.

The Tae Kwon Do hook kick is a great kick because it tricks your opponent. The Tae Kwon do hook kick is, however, one of the more difficult kicks to get down. Just like anything else; it will need practice.

The roundhouse kick is very effective. With proper execution, the roundhouse kick can be a surprising and devastating attack.

Perhaps one of the easiest to learn and the most utilized kicks in Taekwondo is the crescent kick which is a staple for other attacks.

The Tae Kwon Do side kick is one of the most powerful kicks. The Tae Kwon Do reverse side kick is just as effective (if not more) and is a great kick to use in competition or practice.

The lunge kick is an easy kick that most beginner students learn while studying Taekwondo. This kick is used in combat and is a good way to strengthen your legs and hips.

Learning how to do the piercing back kick in Taekwondo is one of the final basic kicks you master. Use this kick to defend against someone attacking you from behind. The piercing back kick can be the most powerful kick in the Taekwondo arsenal if executed properly.

The front snap kick in Taekwondo is one of the basic kicking maneuvers to master. It's a good self-defense move and perhaps the simplest of the Taekwondo kicks.

In a strike based martial art like Taekwondo, the accuracy and speed of a kick is everything. Without the proper control of your kicks, the leg strikes will only end up putting you at risk.
