Festival Lights Fill the Island Air as Galveston Fall Events Season Begins |

As the summer sun fades and fall weather sets in on Galveston, the island offers an array of events and festivals for residents and guests. From October through December the excellent weather provides a backdrop of perfection for Galveston fall and holiday events, including Oktoberfest, the Moody Gardens Festival of Lights and the 36th Annual Dickens on the Strand. October 23 and 24, this Texas Island is transformed into a picturesque scene from Germany. Featuring characters dressed in authentic German costumes, serving German food and beverage, with live entertainment by the world-renown Alpenfest Band. This popular Galveston fall event, held at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2415 Ave G, offers two days of free family fun with games and activities for kids, arts, craft and gift booths as well as auctions. Additional Galveston fall events held in and around the island in October include D'Feet Breast Cancer Run, Lonestar Motorcycle Rally and the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame Fly Day. Galveston Holiday Events Light Up the Island Sky with Festive Displays and Attractions Visit one of the Gulf Coasts biggest events as a tropical garden is transformed into a Winter Wonderland to kick off the holiday season. Moody Gardens hosts the opening of the Galveston holiday events, November 14, as Santa parachutes in to light the winding trail of thousands of lights and over 100 lighted displays. The Festival of Lights is open from 6pm to 10pm nightly and features activities including an Outdoor Ice Skating Rink, IMAX® 3D, Ridefilm, Aquarium Pyramid® and Colonel Paddlewheel Boat. Following the kick off of Galveston holiday events at Moody Gardens the island offers an array of holiday cheer for adults and kids alike. Make your reservations early for Thanksgiving Day Brunch at Hotel Galvez. This is Galveston's premier holiday brunch and repeat guests make their reservations weeks in advance. Following the success of last year, Hotel Galvez will again host a Holiday Lighting Celebration on November 27 at 6 pm. The event will include a special visit by Santa Claus, holiday entertainment and a special unveiling of Executive Chef Jerry Helminski's gingerbread replica of Hotel Galvez. On November 28 Santa's sleigh will arrive at the Davidson Ballroom of the Tremont House for Santa by the Sea. December 5 and 6 the 36th Annual Dickens on the Strand is presented by the Galveston Historical Foundation, where the island is transformed into a page from 19th century history filled with pomp and pageantry.
