Maintaining a personal portfolio website is needed for several needs and reasons. To make your online profile available to others you need to raise its visibility and for that your website projecting your work experience and other related details.

Portfolio website is mandatory for the creative professionals especially for photographers, artists and designers. But how to make it available to the concerned set of people. Below are a few checkpoints that you must keep in mind before promoting your brand name and your work:

  1. LOGO
Any user will first notice your logo and it must be placed at the very beginning of the page, i.e. towards the top left of your website, so that it is properly visible.

  2. TAGLINE
The logo is an emblem to your work and the tagline is a brief elaboration of what you do. It's crisp and captivating intermingling of a few words summarizes your area of work.

  3. PORTFOLIO
This section must include all your previous work. If it is photography that you do, the portfolio must have all pictures taken by you in the best of their quality. If it is writing that you do, include links to the webpages or articles that you have written. In case you have a testimonial written by previous clients, do make use of that as it is always an add-on.

  4. SERVICES
You want to tell the visitors about what you do and therefore this page is dedicated to listing down all your services. Writing, web designing, accounting, event management etc. write down all the services that you are intending to offer to all your prospective clients. In case of multiple services, divide the content into sub heads to make it easy for the client to understand.

  5. ABOUT ME
This is a significant section of the personal portfolio as here the users get to know the real you. Write a few lines about your background, about the number of years that you've been in this area of work etc. This helps in building a rapport with the visitor as he/she is impressed by the transparency. You may also include your picture to build the trust.

  6. CONTACT DETAILS
After providing details about your work and services, when the visitor finally decides to hire you, the Contact page comes in use. Use a clear font to present your contact address, emails; telephone numbers etc so that they are noticeably visible to the user. Also, include a brief form to let the users leave their contact details along with a comment, feedback or query. They can get in touch with you by leaving their website URL and other inquiries in this page.

  7. BLOG
The new age internet technology is all about having a blog that boasts about your work, achievements and current projects. This space is for you to pen down all that you want to tell your visitors. Blogging is by far the best way to promote your online portfolio. Have a provision of RSS feeds so that users can subscribe to them and add funky widgets to make the blog more presentable.

  8. CALL TO ACTION
You must know what exactly are you trying to tell your visitors - get hired, just letting people know you exist or just attract readers? Accordingly you should come up with a call to action button for example - "View my profile", "Hire Me", or simply "Request a Quote".

  9. BE SEEN ON SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES
Social networking sites are a great way to let people know about your updates, your current projects etc. Be active on sites like Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin to make the most of it.

  10. LANGUAGE AND COMMUNICATION
Remember this is a personal portfolio, therefore the language has to be relaxed and something that the users can relate with. You are trying to communicate to the audience on a personal level therefore try to be friendly in your text. But make sure the content is to the point and makes sense.
