It's fun to exchange opinions on favorite movies and favorite actors. Everybody has an opinion and none is more right or wrong but everybody has their own favorites that they like. Some actors amaze us with their enormous talent, some actors are pretty to look at and then of course some are both of those things. Every so often we admire an actor more for what he does away from the movie set as for what they do onscreen because some actors are just remarkable people who use their fame and fortune to help others who are less fortunate throughout the world. Tom Hanks is a exceptional talent. It's is rather surprising to think that he got his start on a small and kooky TV show called "Bosom Buddies. Soon after he pulled off such great roles as Andrew Beckett, a gay lawyer who is infected with the AIDS virus and is fired from his conservative law firm because of the fear that they might also contract the disease. His first Academy Award was from that role back in 1993. His following Academy Award came just the next year making him only the second actor in history to win back-to-back Oscars with Spencer Tracy being the first back in 1937 and 1938. In 1994 Tom Hanks again took home the Oscar for his moving portrayal of Forrest Gump. He also has a list of other good movies but it is too long to cover here. Brad Pitt has been recognized for his pretty boy good looks since he first came on the scene in the 1991 film "Thelma and Louise". On the contrary he hasn't always played the role of the pretty boy. If you remember "Seven" and "Twelve Monkeys" both from 1985 you know what I mean. While the tabloid press seems to take his personal life and overshadow his movie roles, what is the most admirable thing about Brad Pitt is his commitment to humanitarian causes throughout the world. He continuously donates large sums of his riches to help people that are less fortunate. After Hurricane Katrina basically wiped out New Orleans, Brad Pitt started the "Make It Right Foundation" to aid in the redevelopment of the Lower 9th Ward in New Orleans. The foundation builds homes that are affordable, sustainable and true to the diverse culture of New Orleans. The goal was to achieve the building of the homes fast so that the residents could return home as soon as possible. That has been his true accomplishment. There is a different great actor who is deeply admired for his generosity. Paul Newman passed away this past September 26, 2008 but he will long be remembered for great movies like "Road to Perdition" from 2002, "The Color of Money" from 1986 and "Absence of Malice" from 1981. He also played Butch in the well known and ever beloved "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" from the year 1969. And then of course, the list of great Paul Newman movies goes on and on. Nevertheless we also remember him for his philanthropy. In 1982 he created a line of food products called "Newman's Own". It began with a salad dressing and then expanded to include pasta sauce, lemonade, popcorn, cookies, salsa and more. He established a policy that all of the proceeds generated from Newman's Own, after taxes of course, would be donated to charity. As of 2006, the company had donated in excess of $250 million. We will always have our favorite movies and our favorite actors and actresses. We may adore them because of their talent or for other reasons but now that we can download full-length, high quality movies immediately on the Internet at least we won't have to miss any of their movies.
