Lots of of the best children's films have been adapted from wonderful children's writing. Adored kids books that have stood the test of time often make fantastic family movies. Most of these films are good on their own but a inquiry is how intimately do the movies stick to the story of the book?

A somewhat new movie that was adapted from a series of books is "The Spiderwick Chronicles" from 2008. The movie was adapted from the series of books by the same name authored by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi. There has only been one picture so far but there are essentially 5 books in the series at this point. The books and the movie follows the escapade of a family of children who move into a new home where they find a out of the ordinary book that leads them into a land filled with goblins and trolls, elves and dwarves and other creatures.

A great family book that has been made into a pair of movies throughout the years is "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" by Roald Dahl. The book was first in print in 1964 and in 1971 the film "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" starring Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka came out. Another movie called "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" came out in 2005, with Johnny Depp playing the lead of Willy Wonka. Both movies were quite faithful to the book.

One of the most favorite children's books of all time is "Charlotte's Web" by E.B. White. From its first publication back in 1952 it has maintained its popularity all through. The book was first made into an cartoon film in 1973. In December 2006, a live action film edition was released. Both of the films very closely followed the story line of the book.

One of the most dearly loved family writers of all times is Dr. Seuss. More and more of his wonderful books are now being made into movies. In 2008 with Jim Carrey as the voice of the main character, "Horton Hears A Who" came out. This motion picture was an animated feature movie that very accurately followed the story of the book.

"The Grinch Who Stole Christmas", a different Seuss classic was made into an cartoon version that showed on TV every holiday season. That edition followed the book. But in the year 2000 a big budget film of "The Grinch" came out with Jim Carrey as the Grinch and there were many additional scenes and events. "The Cat In The Hat", also from Seuss was released in 2003 and it too, had additional scenes and events.

One of the peak grossing movie series of all times is from the children's books on Harry Potter authored by J.K. Rowling. At this point six of the 7 books have been made into films with a proposal to make two movies from the seventh episode for a total of 8 films. This series is the 2nd maximum grossing series in the past behind James Bond.

Kids books often yield excellent movies that the whole family unit can enjoy. Watching the movies and reading the books as a family can make for a quantity of superb family unit times and great family reminiscences.
