A great motion picture can begin as a script that is authored just to be a motion picture, or sometimes a magnificent film is an adaptation of an likewise magnificent book. Lots of impressive films begin in the thoughts of a famous novelist. Here are a couple of film adaptations from books for the year 2009.

June 2009 brought us the tearjerker tale of "My Sister's Keeper" from the work of fiction of the same name by Jodi Picoult. The movie stars Cameron Diaz as the mother and Jason Patric as the father of two daughters, one of whom is very ill and the other of whom was actually conceived to be a genetic match and keep her sister living. The book and the movie will both bring you to tears at time, but the distorted ending on the movie will likely be disappointing to the readers of the book.

In theaters in August 2009, is "The Time Traveler's Wife" from the popular work of fiction by Audrey Niffenegger. Starring Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams, it is a romantic narrative that follows the life of a man who travels through time and his marriage to his soul mate.

Another film from the summer of 2009 was based upon two books, "Julie and Julia: 365 days, 524 recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen" by Julie Powell and "My Life in France" by the great chef Julia Childs and Alex Prud-homme. "Julie and Julia" is a superb comedy about the lives of these 2 women.

"Taking Woodstock" is based upon the memoir of Elliot Tibor, a adolescent gay man who inadvertently helped to make the most famous rock concert in history come alive, The Woodstock Music and Arts Festival from 1969. Based upon the volume of the same name, the motion picture is directed by Ang Lee.

One of the funniest and most enjoyable children's books from recent times will be released as a movie in September 2009. "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" stars Anna Faris, Bill Hader, James Caan, Andy Samberg, Tracy Morgan and others. If you have read the book you are sure to be looking forward to the hilarious fun from this enchanting story.

We will see the adaptation of another immortal children's book in October 2009. "Where the Wild Things Are" follows the adventures of Max and his astonishing journey to the land of the wild things.

A couple of films on a more grave note will be released in 2009. "The Road" based upon the Pulitzer prize-winning and popular book by Cormac McCarthy comes out in October 2009. Starring Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron. The story follows the path of a father and son in post-apocalyptic times. December 2009, will bring another serious touching narrative in "The Lovely Bones", a account about a young girl who has been murdered and how she watches her family unit from heaven. It is based upon the tale of the same name by Alice Sebold.

If you want to read the book before the motion picture, now is your chance. These are just a couple of of the motion pictures adaptations coming out in 2009.
