Based out of London and Los Angeles, Enlightenment Productions is an entertainment company, which was formed when Hanan Kattan and Shamim Sarif joined forces. Enlightenment Productions, through their sales wing, Enlightenment Films is associated with the production, distribution, and sale of their own movies as well as independent feature films. Apart from this, the company is also engaged in the distribution of books and soundtracks.

Enlightenment Films has distributed two movies - I Can't Think Straight and The World Unseen. I Can't Think Straight has won 8 awards, for its poignant portrayal of two homosexual women, trying to find their ‘true identities, while The World Unseen, which opened at the celebrated Toronto Film Festival, has won over 20 awards, in the international circuits. These movies are based on books by the same name both authored by the talented Shamim Sarif.

The World Unseen book was recently translated onto celluloid, in the form of a motion picture. Produced with the same name, the movie shows the struggle of two homosexual women, in apartheid-ridden South Africa. The movie received rave reviews and was touted as beautiful and a heartwarming story. Through the movie, Sarif tried to challenge racial as well as gender stereotypes.

I Can't Think Straight is another movie based on a novel by the same name, written by Shamim Sarif. Like The World Unseen book, this one too looks at homosexual relationships, between two women. The movie has been showcased at numerous festivals, including the Pink Apple, Zurich, London Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, Melbourne Queer Film Festival, Mardi Gras Film Festival, Sydney and the Palm Springs International Film Festival.

The I Can't Think Straight soundtrack has also won much international appreciation. The soundtrack is a collaboration of artists like Leonie Casanova, Nadine Khouri and Raiomond Mirza. The music is an amalgamation of contemporary, urban and romantic emotions, and allows the story line to move forward.
