A New Look For 2008-2009

By Nicole Borgenicht

Opening the closet doors, how often the thought crosses your mind: "I have nothing to wear!" Couture gowns sparkling, shoes stacked lonely from top to bottom, cocktail dresses with slight length variations, and suits in the same material season to season - there's no shame in feeling mortified! A cure is on its way for this saddened state of wardrobe misery.

The very first statement you make happens when you step through the door. It may be time to get out of the drab colors and clothing dangling lifelessly while entering the room. Garyk Lee designs lift you out of your melancholy box with a fresh new outlook of fashion for 2008. His designs undulate with every curve of the body in a high fashion flow. The first statement you make about yourself becomes a fearless, original, contemporary woman. Garyk Lee is a modern designer for the out of the box thinker, with a classic zone of forever-wear.

How it all began...Garyk Lee's career launched when he was 20 and designed a dress for a Miss World contestant from his hometown in Oklahoma City. Then he opened the first couture salon on Robertson Boulevard in Beverly Hills; afterwards his ready-to-wear fashions appeared in showrooms on Seventh Avenue in Manhattan. In New York City, Garyk Lee designs were presented in upper-end boutiques, and in department stores nationwide including Neiman Marcus. In the desert, Garyk Lee designs are now showing at the exclusive couture salon Troy, on El Paseo in Palm Desert. Troy says, "Garyk Lee is a talent, bringing him to my salon reminds me of when I brought Versace to California. He is unusual, innovative and not what you see all the time. He has a great passion for his work!"

Lee not only has a passion for his work, but with a deeper understanding of his clientele, piece by piece, he builds a wardrobe. "Women love their shoes." Lee describes his ready-to-wear cocktail dresses for Troy as big now, because women love to show off their shoes. "Flirty cocktail dresses are feminine and showcase shoe-fetishes, because women love their shoes." These garments are put together in America, though the silks are from the Middle East and China, while the laces and brocade fabrics are from France. Women float across a room in the international flowing ensemble of fabrics. Appear in a Garyk Lee couture gown, and the design sings out harmonically. Lee contrasts a fine quality silk gown with textured 3-D appliquéd floral silk patterns. It sings out. Lee says, "My application of that fabric would either be on a jacket, a stole, or inserts in a gown but not all over the gown because there's a lot of texture to it."

In the world of fashion, Lee knows the importance of one-of-a-kind clothes - a woman is never seen in the same outfit as anyone else. Always inventive, Lee designs are popular with the youthful mother of the brides or second marriages. For women who like to have a lot of fun and dance at their own reception, Lee has designed a wedding dress where the bottom half zips or snaps off and becomes a cocktail length. "I stay away from trends." Lee says. "I keep my couture timeless with a splash of edginess women can pull out and wear again."

In a matrix of parts, Garyk Lee designs translate into a chameleon wardrobe. Great for the travel client who packs six garments and creates four outfits. His repertoire includes a day-to-evening line, with an emphasis on the dressy day sophisticated professional woman. Garyk Lee says this line is, "For the confident woman who realizes her appearance is part of her success in whatever direction she is going." Dressy day or elegant evening wear designed by Lee in pants suits, skirts and jackets to gown in four ply silk duppioni for a soft drape. Flowing silk halter tops with empire waste and Roman cording tassels as the tie around the neck become an ornate necklace. This Roman looking ensemble also flaunts a bolero jacket and a-symmetrical layered skirts as coordinates with the halter tops.

Always shifting forward, Lee is upfront with his new Beamfit Sportswear Line for the new exercise equipment and routine called the Beam and Beaming. "The Beamfit Line is made from the hottest eco-friendly fabric: bamboo," Lee says, "and the fit is designed to glide along the body rather than hugging too tightly." In colors of lilac grey, coral red, lime green and citrus yellow, the zip off sleeve, boat neck tops are sophisticated and yet not binding and as always, fashionable for a coffee after the workout.

In the future Garyk Lee plans to spread out to fine establishments in multiple cities to include Los Angeles, San Francisco and Tulsa. Unique with universal appeal, Garyk Lee designs signify the upcoming year of fashion and fun, revealing the silky nuances of the new age.
