Puppies can be unruly at times. They bark, lunge and chew in all opportunity they could muster. They sleep in our bed and wake up with a poop waiting to be cleaned. We have to bear in mind the possibility of growing these habits unless we train them out. It's best to start Doberman puppy training the moment they arrive in your home. Dobermans can easily learn as long as you give them proper discipline, guidance and consistency while training them. Keep these basic concepts in mind and you are sure way to creating well mannered dog. 1. Establish Authority. You have to show your young pup that you are the leader—the authority. Doberman are strong and willful dogs, if you don't show them who the pack leader is. They will assume the role. They become strong willed, hard headed and harder to train. There are two ways of showing authority while training Doberman. First is through discipline. In every unacceptable action he displays, you have to correct it. Avoid using physical punishments, they produce unhealthy result such as fear, anxiety and aggression. Authority is also imposed by cuddling and stroking the Doberman. Give his basic and emotional needs like your mom has given you. You will be rewarded with trust, tenderness and respect.
2. Befriend your Doberman. Adult Dobermans, though aggressive in character, can be sociable. You just have to expose them early. The secret in training a Doberman puppy is by exposing them to people early. Gradually expose them to the household, other people and other animals in the neighborhood. Do not lock them up whole day but rather provide a routine that allows them to mingle with other people and beyond the gates. Just make sure that it is safe for your puppy and your little children, especially toddlers. Kids can be impulsive sometimes and hurt the puppy while playing. Physical assault causes trauma and might result to mistrust to people. 3. Be consistent. Puppyhood is the most critical period for your Doberman. Though it is normal for your puppies to bark, jump and chew. You have to train these behaviors before they become habits. Train the Doberman in every opportunity and you have to be consistent about it. This avoids confusion, which impedes the learning pace of your puppy and might result to sloppy obedience. Consistency would also include regular correction of unwanted actions, giving positive rewards to accomplishments and uniformity of certain commands. To ensure consistency, you have to include your family members and everybody in the household for uniformity of command.
Bear in mind that the things that they are doing now are the things that they would do when they are older, unless you train your Dobermans. Therefore, correct your little puppy's bad habits and mold them to well behaved dogs. Always keep these three concepts in mind when you train your Dobermans. In every training tricks and tips, they all point to these three basic concepts. Housetraining a Doberman is not an easy feat. But easier when you have other people's experience to base upon.
