If you are thinking about bringing a pet Chihuahua into your home, you need to know how to make your home safe for a Chihuahua. There are many possible dangers that are commonly overlooked by careless owners.

One danger for a Chihuahua is the possibility of being injured by children. If you have small children in your house, you should always keep them away from your Chihuahua. Chihuahuas are small and it doesn't take a lot of force to cause serious injuries to them. You don't want any children pushing or pulling on your Chihuahua and causing injuries to them.

Just like small children, large dogs can also be a danger to Chihuahuas. If you have large dogs inside your home, keep them in a separate room until your Chihuahua is fully grown and accustomed to being around your large dog. Even if your big dog is nice and sweet, they can still be provoked by your Chihuahua, causing a dangerous fight to break out.

One danger which is often overlooked is household chemicals which could be potentially fatal to your small Chihuahua. These chemicals can be laundry detergent, dish washing liquid, bleach, fertilizer, pesticides, cleaning agents, anti-freeze, and many others. It's a good idea to keep all dangerous chemicals out of reach from your Chihuahua, and never let them roam free anywhere where there could be chemicals.

This is something you are probably aware of, but haven't thought of it as much of a danger. That is having a dirty house. Chihuahuas, for some reason, like to lick things up off the floor. It doesn't matter if it is bacteria-filled dirt, or a piece of food, which is why you should keep your home tidy and clean. Having a clean house will keep your Chihuahua from being able to lick up anything dangerous off the floor.

Before you bring your Chihuahua into your home, make sure there are no physical areas which could injure them. Something like a broken stair, or an open balcony could be very dangerous for a Chihuahua trying to explore their new home. Just walk through your home making note of dangers and fixing them as you go along.

These are some of the most common household dangers for a Chihuahua. Make sure you are bringing your Chihuahua into a safe home by going through and checking all the listed dangers.

Chihuahuas are more than just pets. They become a loving part of our family and it's important for us to treat them with love and respect. I hope this article helps you!
