Why Choose Garden Meerkat Ornaments

There are many different types of garden ornament available; gnomes, toadstools and wheelbarrows being some of the more popular types that people buy when sprucing up their homes and gardens. However, one type of garden ornament that is fast becoming very popular is the meerkat family set. They can be purchased either individually or in a family set of four, and add character to even the smallest of gardens, due to their winning expressions and faces.

Using meerkats for garden ornaments is by no means a new idea, but recently the meerkat has seen a rise in fame due to increased coverage across the UK on our television screens. A recent advertising campaign for an insurance company has seen the introduction of a fictional aristocratic Russian meerkat, Aleksandr Orlov, who has captured the hearts and the minds of the nation. He runs his own meerkat comparison website, and this character, whilst undoubtedly somewhat gimmicky, has seen a real increase in the popularity of the animal.

Meerkats are known to be quite engaging animals, due to their behaviour and facial expressions. Television shows such as ‘Meerkat Manor' have long put the humble meerkat on our screens, but now we want them as garden meerkats as well. As ever, when there is demand for something, manufacturers rise to meet the occasion and this time is no exception. The meerkat family of four offered by a range of retailers is made from frost resistant polyresin and each garden meerkat comes with his or her own expression and pose. The head honcho proudly sports a red bandana around his neck to show his status. They are between 33-35 inches tall, including the stakes they are mounted on and are haind painted. The stakes have spring topped extensions, which help the figures to sway in the wind.

Giving meerkats for garden ornaments as presents is a great idea for those of us who have gardeners in the family, or indeed for those who just love the meerkat. On the other hand, why not buy a set of garden meerkats for yourself, as they are sure to raise a smile on evry the coldest Winter day. Being tall, their heads should even stick out above the snow, so you will always be able to see their grins from the warmness of the house. If you do choose to buy them as a present for someone, however, be sure to tell them that meerkats are traditionally regarded by the Africans as ‘sun angels'; they guard tribes from evils such as werewolves and/or moon devils, who attack those on their own or stray cattle/animals. This interesting fact will no doubt add a new aspect to their view of the friendly garden meerkats and may even encourage them to learn more about the meerkat species.

Whilst giving meerkats for garden ornaments may not be your average or conventional present, people these days tend to appreciate things which make them smile and these will certainly aim to do just that.
