Blogger Provides Publishers With RSS |

Blogger seems to have finally provided publishers with an RSS 2.0 feed. Although there's no official announcement, the sudden appearance of the new RSS feed (rss.xml) within my blog directory gives a good indication that this new feature has been implemented. Up until now, Blogger has only provided an Atom 0.3 feed (atom.xml) for publishers. If you wanted an RSS format feed, then you needed to use 3rd party services such as FeedBurner to convert the Atom feed into RSS. Now it seems, you have the best of both worlds and can provide your readers with both formats, without the need to use additional services. Here are examples of the 2 types of feeds now available: You may notice that the specification of this new feed is slightly different. The OpenSearch RSS 1.0 is an extension to the RSS 2.0 standard, which adds additional functionality to provide search results over RSS channels. This extension is designed to be backward compatible with existing RSS readers. With this new development, I'll still continue to use FeedBurner for my RSS 2.0 feed as I like the powerful stats and add-ons this service provides. The introduction of the RSS format feed however, is excellent news for current and new users of Blogger.
