Plastic pens sometimes get a bad rap. They seem less valuable than other kinds of pens so people stick their noses up at them. They are absolutely perfect for trade show swags though. People who attend professional trade shows are always excited about what freebies they will get when they go through the exhibit hall. There is actually something like a freebie frenzy that takes over and attendees get caught up with getting as many free things as they can. Many of the freebies they get will turn out, when the frenzy subsides, to be nothing more than throw away material. If your booth or table has promotional pens, you will be a popular location. People fee that promotional pens are a good freebie while in their freebie frenzy and after it is over. They do not often throw away a pen. Because trade shows, conference, seminars, convention have thousands of attendees, it is probably not feasible to give away costly promotional pens so plastic pens become acceptable and useful. As mentioned earlier a pen is a sought after freebie because it is useful and practical. Paper freebies such as business cards are boring and tossed as soon at the frenzy is over. You may have to compete with the other vendors giving away plastic pens, executive stress toys and dandy little highlighters but, the deal is a pen is still more practical because it will be used more often. If your budget allows you might buy some more expensive, stylish and desirable pens to give to attendees who visit your booth and sign up for 6 months of your news letter. You might also have higher quality pens for anyone who actually purchases a product or a subscription to your service. Diversifying your promotional pens for different level of interest just makes sense. You do want people to stop by and pick up a pen because if even one or two people actually keep the pen and contact you after the show, you may make up the cost of the pens. There may be people who take your promotional pens and not at all interested in your product or service. This is OK. You are not loosing money on your advertising because the probability of your pen being lost or left somewhere is really quite high. As soon as it is found by the new owner, it will be marketing your business and products all over again. Promotional pens pass the practicality standard and because they do, they will make a great promotion marketing item for your business.
