Keys To Conversion - Move The Free-Line

I have mentioned the importance of conversion before. It is one of the three pillars that will support your info marketing business. If you want to make money online, you need to ask people to take action; they don't just do it all on their own.


There are many ways to get to conversion. Having a visible and direct Call to Action is one of them. Another one that I recommend that you use is what we call a piece of free-line content.


Lately, I've gotten something of a reputation for using this term "free-line content." It's kind of like a sample. You know the kind you get at the supermarket, where a lady is giving away bites of cheese or a savory you can't resist trying. Or at the green grocer's, how the guy will offer free slices of an apple or a peach, and it tastes so good that you end up buying a whole sack of fruit.


Giving away free-line content is pretty much the same idea, but in information marketing, we want something more than a smile or a "thank you" in return. We want to capture names, e-mail addresses and opt-in permissions. We want something in exchange for our free-line content.


Whatever information products you are selling, you create a sample of it, and then give it away for free to capture visitor data. In fact, you can create an entire line-up of free giveaways leading to conversion. You are going to entice visitors to try a "slice" of the information products you sell and give you their contact information.


If you attend any of my webinars or teleseminars on Internet marketing, you might also have heard me say something like "move the free-line." Well, that's just a fancy way of saying that it used to be expensive to give stuff away. Moving the free-line, means pushing out your line of free samples by lowering the cost of making something free.


In the past, if I wanted to give away an information product, like a video, it would cost me 10 or 20 bucks to duplicate it and ship it out. Or if I wanted to give books, I'd have to get them printed and send them out. That can cost a lot of money.


Well now, thanks to the Internet and new technologies, for next to nothing I can create a video that has a perceived value of $100 dollars. It would have cost me 20 bucks to give away before, but today I can give it away, for free, and spend almost no money. The cost of bandwidth is maybe a couple of pennies.


So we can move the free-line, the line of things that we can give away for free in exchange for a registration or an action. And there really isn't any limit to the kinds of free-line content you can develop and give away when you start an online business.


For example, you can offer a free teleseminar or a free video. You can create a free downloadable book, something that's worth $50 or $100, and offer it in exchange for an opt-in. Or if the book is your product, create a "white paper" summary of the key points in it and give that away.


When you combine your strong Call to Action with the free-line content that someone can get for free, just by opting-in, it really tips the scale of value. Your visitors will say, "Oh wow, I've got to have this! I'm gonna get all this great free stuff!" Then just watch the conversion follow naturally, as your free slices turn into purchased sacks of fruit.
