When developing your marketing plan, you are probably concerned with how your consumers will behave. Tracking their behavior can help you decide how to place your products in your store, how often to change things up, how much inventory to purchase, and when to offer sales and promotions. No one can know for sure how your customers are going to behave, but by watching closely and taking a few preemptive steps, you can predict how consumer behaviors will affect your bottom line. Human behavior is very complex and you shouldn't expect that you'll be able to accurately predict how people will behave in the retail world. You can, however, hopefully come up with a general plan to market towards a significant portion of your target audience. The first step is to talk to your customers. Find out what they would change about your retail store if they could. Find out what they like and don't like. Implement their ideas if possible. You may be surprised to find that many of your customers are thinking the same thing. Something as seemingly insignificant as your cheap plastic hangers can be effecting the way that they think about your store. Would ordering high quality wooden hangers change their opinion about the quality of your merchandise? Would it raise the amount that they're willing to pay? Think about how de-crowding your displays by switching from regular round hanging racks to slatwall or gridwall displays could open up your store and be more inviting to your customers. The internet can be a very useful tool when trying to determine what people are looking for. Chatrooms and message boards give people an unbiased outlet to express what they're really thinking. Imagine if the owner of a store came up and asked what you thought of the store today. You may not feel like talking and just say that everything is fine and wonderful. Inside you might be thinking that the store is dirty and that you wouldn't dare buy any of the clothes that you just looked at because they were wrinkled and crammed together. By looking on the internet in chatrooms and on message boards, you get the real deal. You're reading comments by people that really care enough to comment. They can be candid without worrying about offending the owner or employees of the store. It gives the world of predicting consumer behavior a whole new resource for research. We no longer have to guess what consumers might really be thinking when they smile and give a polite answer to our inquiries. You may be surprised at the effect that something as small as switching to wooden hangers over plastic ones can have on your business. Article Source: http://www.ArticleBlast.com |
