Now, you may think that holiday poster printing is the same as your
regular poster printing, but the truth is there are differences. This
is because the holiday promotional environment is pretty different.
In addition, the design philosophy and technique during the holidays will require a different kind of attitude towards poster printing. Therefore, as a guide for you, here are our seven do's and don'ts for poster printing over the holidays that should help you get them right. 1. Do use colors - It is always mandatory to print in full color. While in other times, you can use content with black and white printing, during the holidays it is always crucial to print in full color. This is because most of the time, you will need to project a holiday theme that cannot be easily done with black and white pictures. Only full color can project the necessary themes and effects that will make your ad a "festive holiday poster". So always print with full color, you have no other choice unless you want to fail. 2. Do use special ink effects - Your holiday ad also needs some special inks, almost always. While usual poster inks will work for most poster promotions, during the holidays your inks must be extra special. Glossy inks and glitter inks are usually used to make them look festive. These are ideal for "twinkle" effects or magic effects that help a lot in various holiday design elements. So when possible always use special ink effects. 3. Do use glossy paper - Your holiday ad also needs to be printed in style. You must not use normal "rough" paper in printing this season because it will not do justice to your holiday design. Usually it is best to use glossy paper so that your output will have that professional sheen that everybody expects. 4. Do print big - It is also good to always print big sizes this season. Not only will this make your ad more noticeable, it will also reach a lot more people. This means a larger readership base, and a lot more chances for communicating your holiday marketing message. So print big if you can. 5. Do not use too many different fonts - Now, one tip you should remember is not to use too many font styles. It can be tempting to use lots of different and interesting fonts, but this has the negative effect of making the poster design quite messy. It is better to use only one or two font styles and just vary the size of the fonts for the emphasis. Moreover, you can change the letters into "bold" or "italic" if need be for a different effect. This makes your theme cleaner and more coherent. 6. Do not use web images - Also, never use web images into any kind of design. While this may be the easiest way for you, those images can be bad for your poster printing. Most of those kinds of images are in low resolution resulting in bad and fuzzy images when printed. It is best to take your own photographs or develop your own graphics so that you can set those things for high quality. Only high quality images with high resolutions will turn out great. So always avoid those web images when you can. 7. Do not print too few - Finally, do not print too few copies. Most businesses will just print enough for their shops. However, proper promotions will always need more, so that you can distribute around the area of your business and even beyond to different high traffic areas. It is also good to print a few extra copies just for emergencies. You never know when your current copies might be damaged or deteriorate because of the weather. These are the do's and do nots in holiday poster printing. Remember these well and get your promotions right this holiday season. Kaye Z.
